40 Day Prayer Guide

INTIMACY

Day 1

Thankfulness

The 40 Prayer Journey - Day 1 - THANKFULNESS

Col. 3:1-3 “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

Let’s begin our 40 day prayer journey together by choosing to calibrate our hearts and minds to the reality that we are raised with Christ, and seated at the right hand of God. That position, depth of connectedness, and that perspective changes the way we see everything. When we see as He sees, THANKFULNESS and worship can’t help but overflow from our hearts. When we see what He has accomplished on our behalf, what other response is there?

Day 2

Revelation of the Father

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 2 - FRESH REVELATION OF THE FATHER

John 1:18 “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”

Col 1:15 “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”

Day 2 of our prayer journey is an opportunity to put our eyes on our Good Father, who loved us so much that He gave His Son - Who came to reveal the Father and make Him known. This is a staggering revelation! We haven’t always known what God is like, but once we’ve seen Jesus, now we do! Let’s spend today praying for a deeper revelation of the Father that would extend to and impact every area of our lives.

Day 3

Resting in Him

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 3 - RESTING IN HIM

Psalm 62:5-8 “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Everything comes to rest in His presence. Our hearts find a safe embrace and our minds find peace. He invites us to be vulnerable and transparent, while remaining entirely safe with Him. Intimacy pours into us as we rest in Him. Today, our prayer is that we would truly enjoy God, and find rest in Him that transforms our lives. Where do you need His rest to become a reality in your life/heart/mind?

Invite and EXPECT Him to meet you there today as you enter His rest - not as a destination - but as a reality that permeates your heart, mind, circumstances, and responses.

Day 4

Preparation for more

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 4 - PREPARATION FOR MORE

Rom. 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may OVERFLOW with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

God wants to dwell in us. He wants to fill us so thoroughly and completely that we overflow with life, joy, peace and hope.

Jesus told a story of a man who found a treasure in a field, then went and sold everything he owned to purchase the field, and posses the treasure. Why? Because what he found was more valuable than everything he owned combined. The challenge is clear: He is more valuable than anything else I am holding onto. Will I let go of these things of fleeting value and grab ahold of the eternal things? Do I value God enough to make radical room for him in my heart and life?

Pray this today with us: "I want more of you God, no matter the cost, whatever it takes! You're worth it."

Day 5

Face to Face, Heart to heart

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 5 - FACE TO FACE, HEART TO HEART

Exodus 33:11 “Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.”

John 15:15 “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

2 Cor. 3:18 “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Our position in Christ is friendship with God - bringing us face to face. What Moses experienced, we now experience. But it is so much more than that. As we live in unbroken friendship with God, remaining, ABIDING in Him - a transfer takes place. We become like what we worship. Transformed by His glorious presence and power.

We are praying for fresh revelation (mental and experiential) that we are living in friendship with God, an unbroken knowing, intimacy in the fullest - face to face, heart to heart. Let’s invite that to be our manifest reality, the anchor of our lives.

Hunger for more

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 6 - HUNGER FOR MORE

Phil. 3:7-9 NLT - Paul, speaking of his accumulated life accomplishments: “I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him.”

Does the God we worship warrant this kind of statement? Do we have a revelation of Him that is so big, so intense, so powerful, so loving, and SO REAL...that we’re drawn to focus on AND align our lives with him? When we realize that nothing else satisfies or compares with Him, we will always be hungry for more!!

God, awaken a deep hunger in us for MORE OF YOU!

Day 6

Day 7

Carrying His presence

40 Day Journey - Day 7 - CARRYING HIS PRESENCE

2 Cor. 4:6-7 “For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

We are carrying the treasure of God’s light in our hearts, revealing Christ’s presence! His creative power called forth light, which is seen in the face of Jesus, and now rests in our hearts! Imagine standing face to face with the risen, glorified, creator of the universe. Your best imagination is a grain of sand compared to the infinite beaches of His magnitude. Understand what you carry. The weight of His glory. The reality of His presence. In you!! You may feel like you are a simple clay jar, but God entrusts you to carry His presence around the world!

Day 8

Carrying His love

40 Day Journey - Day 8 - CARRYING HIS LOVE

Eph. 3:16-19 “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

Carrying His supernatural love is more than just a feeling. It is God himself, with us, embracing us, and drawing us to Him. What deep joy comes from the revelation and realization that we are loved - by God - infinitely and eternally - and that He is using his “glorious, unlimited resources” to EMPOWER us to experience the LOVE OF CHRIST right now. Not when we arrive somewhere else, or sometime in the distant future, but where we are right now! And our commission? To love others this same way!!

Carrying His power

40 Day Journey - Day 9 - CARRYING HIS POWER

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses near and far...”

The HOLY SPIRIT is AVAILABLE to us today, just like the early church. (And, available doesn’t mean optional. If Jesus, Peter, Paul, and others needed Holy Spirit in their lives, so do we!!) THE HOLY SPIRIT is God with us, the promise that all of heaven is behind us to do the Kingdom work before us! I cannot overstate the willingness of God to empower you to demonstrate His love, share His Gospel of reconciliation, and to walk a supernatural “spirit-filled” life. You are empowered to make Jesus famous for the work He is doing in you, and by the works He is accomplishing through you.

Make this your prayer today: “Holy Spirit, fill me and send me! Shake my heart, my life, my marriage, my family, my city, my home, my school, this very room with Your presence. Make me a Spirit empowered voice and life that is fully alive and living for Your glory! Thank you that Your power and favor isn’t for my fame, but for me to accomplish Your purposes. All of this is from you, because of you, for you, and through you! God of power, I’m available!!”

John 14:12-13 “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me [Jesus] will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son…”

Day 9

Carrying His victory

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 10 - CARRYING HIS VICTORY

1 Cor. 15:57 “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Deut. 20:4 “For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."

One of the most exciting things that took place at the Cross and in Jesus' resurrection and ascension into heaven was the fact that we become joint-heirs with Christ. This was the most staggering victory to ever take place! Now as joint-heirs, Jesus’ victory is shared with us when we say “yes” to God’s invitation to be His sons and daughters. In this way, His victory is our victory.

Join us in praying this today: “Jesus, You are the Victorious One. Sin, hopelessness, fear, and even death have no hold on You, and as I am in You, they now have no hold on me. Pour out fresh revelation of the victory I have in You! Today I stand over places I believe I am defeated, and call on Your victory to be my victory, Your freedom to be my freedom, and Your strength to be my strength! I stand again in Your victory, and re-engage this battle - not as one fighting for victory, but as one fighting from victory. Even in a struggle, my victory is secure. Thank You that You are a God who fights for me and invites me to stand in Your victory!”

1 John 3:8 “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.”

Day 10

IDENTITY

Day 11

Thankfulness

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 11 - THANKFULNESS

2 Kings 6:15-17 [King Aram wanted revenge on Elisha the prophet. He surrounded the city where Elisha was with his army during the night] When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Worship is the overflow of a grateful heart, and eyes that see that what God is doing is far more than what we perceive. Let’s make time today in our prayer journey to thank God that He is at work around us, and that there is far more happening than we realize. Our God is for us. He is working on our behalf. Can we worship Him in advance of seeing what He is going to accomplish in that area we have some worry, anxiety and fear? I believe worship is not for after the breakthrough only - it is a weapon for breakthrough!

Day 12

Revelation of Jesus

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 12 - IDENTITY: REVELATION OF JESUS

Phil. 3:8 “I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.”

Is our revelation of Christ powerful enough to warrant this kind of statement? Have we encountered His love, affection, passion and magnitude to the degree that things we used to value and boast in suddenly seem base and simple? Today, our prayer is to see Jesus as the radiance of God’s glory. Let’s take time to hold up all that we are, all that we have, and all that we do to the worth of Christ. We may find re-calibration is needed, but the reward is deeper alignment with Christ, our greatest treasure!

Heb. 1:3 “The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His nature…”

Day 13

Resting in Jesus

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 13 - IDENTITY: RESTING IN JESUS

Hebrews 10:11-14 [Speaking of the Old Covenant sacrificial system] “And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”

Talk about rest we have in Christ! He completed the work, once FOR ALL TIME, and then He sat down at the right hand of God. You can’t get more settled than that. Sacrifice is made, Jesus sits down (unlike priests [ie, religion/religious systems] who had to stand all day, day after day, making sacrifices for sin, Jesus sat), and perfection is released. How can we rest in identity? How can we stop striving? When Christ’s completed work reaches our hearts and we realize that because of Him we stand before God our Father, holy, blameless, and without a single accusation against us (Col. 1:22). JESUS is at rest, and that’s your place of REST! If your identity was still up for grabs in heaven, He’d still be at work here on earth - but it’s not, and He’s not, so you shouldn't be either!

Prayer: “I’m tired of living and striving for identity. I choose today to rest in your completed work. Teach me and fill me, that I might know and experience what it feels like to be holy, blameless and free from all accusation. Take it from head knowledge to heart knowledge - That Your completed work, Your seatedness, Your being at rest - would put me at rest.”

Day 14

Preparation for more

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 14 - IDENTITY: PREPARATION FOR MORE!

Two weeks into our prayer journey, I (Ryan) want to take a different approach today. I want to add an element of fasting (intentionally and proactively shifting our focus) to our prayer journey. As we “prepare for more”, there are times we need to disengage from some things in order to fully engage what God is doing in our lives. So, my simple challenge to day as we pray together, is to ask God what you could “fast” for the rest of these 40 days, in order to be better prepared to engage what He is doing right now.

For me, I am going to be giving up access - specifically, the way people can access me through my phone during “off” hours. I get a lot of requests and connections throughout the day and night through my phone. When I am home, I usually do a good job of keeping these interactions brief, so I’m not too distracted from my family. But, here’s the thing: My attention, overall may only be lost for 5-10 of each hour, but if you imagine a yo-yo - that’s what my attention is like with those around you. In and out, people on my phone having my attention quicker than my kids or even Holy Spirit. So, to break out of this distracted state, I’m simply giving up my phone after work hours while I’m with my family, kids, and during my prayer/Word times. Simple? Yes. But, often the simple things we can shift so easily have the most impact to our mental, emotional and spiritual state. That’s what I feel Holy Spirit asking me to do as a “fast from the normal” to prepare for and focus on the amazing things He’s up to! I want to disengage my normal, to engage Him fully!

If you feel so bold, ask Holy Spirit right now what you can step away from to step into Him more fully. Take the time to really listen and take account of your life/habits/routines - and if He puts something on your heart, write it in the comments below so we can all walk this out together. What is something that is pulling your attention, heart or time away from being present in His presence? Let’s take the remaining days of this 40 day journey together, setting ourselves apart - even if it means letting something go! It’ll be worth it!!

Day 15

Face to Face, Heart to Heart

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 15 - IDENTITY: FACE TO FACE, HEART TO HEART

Luke 5:12-13 “While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell facedown and begged Him, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing, He said, “be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.”

Talk about being face to face and heart to heart with Jesus. I love this passage as it relates to having our identity restored after an encounter with Jesus. This man was shunned, and designated “unclean”. His identity dumbed down to what he had instead of who he was. He lived with this shame. Outcast. Forgotten. Overlooked. Untouchable. Then, he met Jesus face to face, and Jesus asked what he wanted - pursuing the desire of his heart. At the moment of this interaction, still living in his “unclean, untouchable” identity, this man was hiding his face in the dirt. Then Jesus did something staggering: Before he was well, Jesus reached out and touched this man, contagious, infected, dirty and dying. Before He healed him, He restored his dignity and humanity. Jesus is not repulsed by our condition when we come to Him. He doesn’t even have to heal us before He desire to touch us. Jesus removed all this man’s sickness, but first he taught us something about the power of His love. To meet us in the dirtiest, shame-filled, fear-trapped places in our lives. He will heal us, but first He will love us as we are. That’s where our identity is birthed. Not in our cleaned up state, but in the fact that He loved us as we were, broken, condemned, hiding and ashamed.

Hunger for more

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 16 - IDENTITY: HUNGER FOR MORE

[Exodus 16] Living off of yesterday's spiritual food is no way to go through life. Jesus wants an unfolding, personal relationship with us, and He delights in giving us new revelation everyday, in His Word, in Prayer, in the Spirit, and through everything around us. He is constantly speaking if we keep our focus and desire fresh. It’s easy to live on a word from Him from the past - but the danger is we replace fresh with fast. It’s faster and easier to hold onto what we’ve always known, always done, or what Christ has shared with us in the past. Especially in the area of identity. But our challenge in this prayer journey today is to hunger for more: No more settling, or status quo. We believe He has new facets of your identity and calling that He wants to show you. Are you hungry for more? Are you ready to respond? Are you ready to change your life to align with who He says you are? Or will we conform to what fits in our comfortable normal?

Make this your prayer: “Thank you Jesus that you brought me into identity, and that you are constantly speaking and calling me up into who You are, and who I am through You. Today, I fix my heart on you and I am hungry for fresh truths to be released to me. I put off anything that is dulling my desire for You, I hunger for encounter with you, and to find my true self revealed in You.”

Day 16

Day 17

Receive identity

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 17 - RECEIVING IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Matthew 16:14-18 “Jesus...asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’

Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome it.”

Jesus didn’t ask “who are you?” He asked “who am I?” Peter had a revelation from God of who Jesus is (the Son of the living God, the foundation on which He builds His church), and in return, Jesus was able to reveal identity to Peter. Like Peter, once we have revelation of who He is, our identity and assignment is built on that foundation. IDENTITY FLOWS FROM INTIMACY. In order for us to walk in our God given authority/assignment, we must FIRST have an understanding of who He is. Identity is the EXPRESSION of our INTIMACY with God, and the revelation we carry of who He is.

Make this your prayer today: “Jesus, you have spoken and released identity to me. May who You are be the entire foundation of my life, and may nothing else ever be built on this foundation except what You build. Holy Spirit, anything I or anyone else has added to my identity without your permission and revelation, show me right now so I can confess it and see it removed once and for all. Build on the foundation You laid on who You are, an identity in me that is unshakeable. Let no season, circumstance, or person remove or shake what you have built!”

Day 18

Break off lies

40 Day Prayer Journey - DAY 18 - BREAKING OFF LIES AGAINST OUR IDENTITY

Colossians 2:13-15 “When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses, having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross! And having disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.…”

When we walk in our IDENTITY in Christ, it contradicts the work of the enemy fiercely! Christ made us alive when we were dead, forgave our sin, erased our debt - every attempt the enemy made to hold us in our old identity was turned around, and the enemy was publicly shamed by the triumph of Christ on the cross. He won. He made us new. Our identity held in sin was cancelled, and our new identity was released. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Cor. 5:17

In Revelation 12:10 satan is called the “ACCUSER” of the believers. The Greek word for accuser is ‘katagoreo’, which means “the one who labels”. Since his attempt to hold you in your former identity was completely destroyed at the cross, he settles for the next best thing, getting us to wear labels that are not true. He is constantly accusing us, and though we know theologically those charges will not stick, he is convincing. He is constantly trying to stick these false labels on us to wear, accept, and live down to them. This is why it is imperative we spend time in prayer today closing any door or breaking off any foothold we have given the enemy by believing, speaking, or acting out false labels/accusations the enemy wants to put on us.

“Jesus, I choose not to partner with lies and accusations the enemy puts on me to heap shame, guilt and condemnation on my life. He is an accuser that was exposed as a powerless liar at the Cross. I confess any labels I have accepted that are not from you and ask that you would break off any power that lie was given in my mind, heart or actions through my agreement. I am more than a label - I am a son/daughter of the King. My identity is in who He is, not what I have, what I do, or what people think of me!”

Persevere when identity is challenged

40 Day Prayer Journey - DAY 19 - PERSEVERING IN OUR IDENTITY

When Jesus was baptised, His Father spoke audibly over Him “this is my son, who I love, and I am proud of him”. In that moment, before Jesus had done anything miraculous, or changed the world in any way, His Father declared his identity over him. However, shortly after this supernatural encounter, Jesus was led into the wilderness where He was tested, and the identity his Father had established was challenged.

But here’s the thing. When our identity in Christ is challenged like this, much the same way it was for Jesus - we can feel discouraged or frustrated. But the reality of what is happening is that our identity is established, not weakened, when it is challenged. When we choose to confront lies directed at our identity, instead of crumbling before them, we become more confident standing on Christ’s truth - who He has made us, how He sees us, and what He is accomplishing in us.

Pray today - “Jesus, in the places where I feel like my identity in Christ is constantly under attack, help me to see these battles as opportunities to establish my truth in you. Teach me to rely on you moment by moment, and not to veer into discouragement. I am rooted and established in You, and my identity is coming alive more and more, even when it is challenged. Especially when it is challenged!”

Day 19

Jesus, live through us

40 Day Prayer Journey - DAY 20 - IDENTITY - JESUS IS LIVING THROUGH US!

John 15:5, 8 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing...This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

As we are raised up and established in Christ, and our identity is fused to Him alone - it is so He’ll be glorified! God is alive in you, not to make you famous and fancy - but to spread His Gospel, expand His Kingdom and show His greatness and glory to people around us who desperately need to know the living God! As we remain in Christ, grafted into His heart and purposes, we will grow abundantly. There is no limit to who you can be and what you can do in Christ.

1 John 2:5-6 “But those who obey God's word truly show how completely they love him. By this we may know that we are in him: Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did” or, as another translation puts it, “If we say we are his, we should walk just as He walked.”

In Him, we are empowered and expected to walk as Jesus walked, continuing the ministry of announcing and demonstrating His Kingdom wherever we find ourselves. Live as He lived, walk as He walked. This sounds impossible if we are rooting our identity in religion and performance, and we believe it is on us to “live up” to Jesus - instead of realizing He came to fill us to overflowing with Himself - to live in us and through us! It’s Him! Always has been, always will be.

Pray for opportunities to walk as He walked today - to live as He lived - fully identified with and dependent on the Father. You are called, equipped, and empowered. Let’s humble ourselves to rest in Him, and let go of anything holding us back from living this lifestyle - reject a works mentality - but embrace the assignment and authority we have in Him. He’s ready and able to show up through you!! You are His body now. Your hands are His hands to people around you. Your feet are His feet, to bring Him to those around you. His eyes, His words, His miracles, etc., etc., etc.,...you get the idea!! Now, go do it!

Day 20

INHERITANCE

Day 21

Thankfulness

40 Day Prayer Journey - DAY 21 - INHERITANCE - THANKFULNESS

TESTIMONY TUESDAY!!
As we begin the next 10 days of our prayer journey, we are circling back to the same thing we have started each of our 10 day sections with: Thankfulness.

Let’s make this a day to fully reflect on all that God is doing in and around us, particularly specific to our region and church. Last Sunday was one of the best Sundays I can remember - Holy Spirit touching lives, 400+ prophetic words given out, powerful and passionate worship, and so many people being baptized while their family in Christ celebrated and cheered with them. It was staggeringly cool, and our hearts are still exploding with joy at all that God is doing.

And while it’s fun to celebrate what God is doing in our Sunday gatherings, Kate and I are most thankful for what God is doing in your hearts and through your lives every day of the week, in your work, schools and homes. It’s not what happens in our meetings, but how well you are moving with Holy Spirit in your lives day in, and day out, that has completely humbled us. Everyone of you that have reached out to us and shared the story of what God has been up to in and around you inspire and encourage us. We are so THANKFUL to be on this adventure with you.

ACTION STEP:
Let’s make this a day of thankfulness. Can you share in the comments below something you are thankful in your heart for, or a testimony of something God has or is doing in your life?

Day 22

Revelation of Holy Spirit

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 22 - INHERITANCE - Revelation of Holy Spirit

John 14:16-20 Jesus said “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

Jesus revealed the Father, and promised the Holy Spirit, who fell upon Jesus’ followers on the day of Pentecost - igniting them individually and corporately, and birthing the church. The Holy Spirit has been revealed to us, fully God, fully present, and we are invited to live all of our lives in Him - “because I [Jesus] live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you…” This is to be reality. Spirit-led, Spirit-fueled, Spirit-filled people who have asked, received, and come fully alive in Holy Spirit.

Prayer - “Holy Spirit, come and fill me, renew me, strengthen me, and awaken me to the depth of who You are and what You’re doing. I don’t want to live a moment of this day outside of complete surrender and dependence on you! You are alive, available, and you are God. You have been revealed to me, and in that revelation, you are showing me the fullness of my inheritance in You. Stir my heart to pursue you...everything You are, and everything you have! I surrender. Fill me completely, everyday! Awaken dreams, spiritual gifts, desires and hopes as you pour out upon me!”

Day 23

Ask and Receive His infilling

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 23
INHERITANCE - ASK AND RECEIVE HIS INFILLING

Acts 19:1-2 - “While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers 2 “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them.

“No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

This verse always strikes me - the narrator called these people believers, even “disciples”, yet they had only been baptized for the forgiveness of sins. They had no concept of Holy Spirit, even admitting they’d “never heard there is a Holy Spirit…” What!?? How is that even possible!?

Shortly after this conversation, Paul laid hands on them and they received the infilling of the Holy Spirit. So much of religion can be human effort - like these early believers, just doing what John the Baptist told them. But Paul was traveling from town to town, preaching the one John spoke of who would come after him. John baptized with water, but Jesus came to baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire! (Luke 3:16)

Today’s prayer is simply this: “Don’t let me follow you like these early believers without accessing the full reality of Holy Spirit poured out upon me! Following You isn’t about following a behavior pattern, it is about being a vessel, open and available to You, Holy Spirit! I am asking for Your fresh infilling today, and as I ask, I receive! Come fill me up until your presence, power, love and life are overflowing to those around me!”

Luke 11:13 “So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Day 24

Filled up, sent out

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 24 -
INHERITANCE - Filled up, sent out

We are filled with the Spirit of the living God! But the incredible thing about this reality is that we aren’t filled one time for all time, but we are invited into a relational position of constant “infilling”. God gives the Holy Spirit “without measure” (John 3:34) - limitless, infinite, outpouring!

Eph. 5:18 says it this way in the Greek: “be being filled”!! How great is that!? “Baptism with the Holy Spirit” is so much more than a one off, check the box experience. It is a daily desire of God to pour Himself out upon us! “Stop getting drunk with wine, which leads to wild living, but keep on being filled with the Spirit.” Like a container held under a waterfall, we are capable of being constantly filled, renewed, and empowered in the Spirit. Keep on being filled! Don’t stop. Don’t live based on your limited capacity, but on His unlimited generosity. He is not a God who withholds Himself from You!

This infilled life is for His glory! He wants to fill you to use you, and to equip you to grow and flourish, shift environments, and change the world around you. Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses...to the ends of the earth.” We are powerful, free, filled and released to carry His Kingdom to the ends of the earth. Or, better yet, to our family, neighbors, fellow students and/or co-workers!

Let’s pray a simple and bold prayer together today: “Holy Spirit come - fill me up, send me out!”

Day 25

Gifts aren’t for me // selflessness

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 25 -
Inheritance - Filling and Gifts of the Spirit aren’t only for me!

2 Cor. 4 “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in [us]...And as God's grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.”

The Holy Spirit is in us, and His infilling is available to us for His glory and to empower us to reach others. “Spirit of God, come and fill every part of my heart, mind and body with your presence - I am fully alive in You” is an important and powerful prayer - but that’s not the end goal! Those who are fully alive in Christ delight in spreading that life powerfully to everyone around them, and pointing people back to the source of true life: Jesus Christ. You are filled and commissioned to preach the good news of Jesus and expand His Kingdom wherever you are. Fille by Him, for Him! Filled by Him, for others. Filled by Him, for life.

Carry an encounter // Can’t give what we don’t have

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 26 -
Inheritance - Carry an encounter

Luke 8:38-39 “The man whom the demons had left begged to go with Jesus. But He sent him away, saying, “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went and proclaimed all over the town how much Jesus had done for him.…”

When we meet God powerfully, we carry that encounter to the world. It shouldn’t stop with us. Whether we think of the woman at the well, Peter being restored, Paul knocked off his donkey, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, or the man delivered of demons we read about in Luke 8 - one thing is clear in every radical encounter story we read or hear: God wants to show up for us, to show off through us! The “demoniac” is a great example: He met Jesus, was powerfully delivered, and begged to go with Jesus. When Jesus said no, it didn’t matter, because he was commissioned by Jesus to spread the story of what Jesus had done for him throughout his region. He became the first Gentile missionary to the ten cities of Decapolis!! Encounter in him became an encounter through him. He carried what he had been given. That is God’s desire every time He meets with us - that we would carry something to those around us. That is how we steward our inheritance in Christ: Freely received, freely given away!!

Prayer: Nothing you do for me or in my life ends with me! I carry You and Your work in me! Let it be shown through my life in everything I do, and everyone I encounter!!

Day 26

Day 27

Awaken Hopes

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 27 -
Inheritance - Awakening Hopes

As we pray through this 40 day journey, I believe God is beginning to stir up specific areas of “inheritance” - that is, hopes, dreams and assignments He has held in secret especially for you. As you are continually being filled, positioning your life under His unlimited outpouring, roots are going deep into His love, and the fruit of a life rooted in love is a life bursting with Spiritual fruit. What does this fruit look like? Love, joy, peace, patience...yes. Kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, absolutely. But, more practically, ideas, dreams, businesses; heaven’s blueprints, methods, and techniques that create supernatural shifts in your family, marriage, work and school. Join me today in praying for our inheritance in Christ - specifically HOPE to begin to rise in you, and all of us! Hope is rising. A new day is upon us. New ideas and passions are going to be released - but first, the seeds of HOPE are being planted by His Spirit. Take His presence to your frustrated and hopeless places, turn the soil of your heart with Him, and ask Him to seed it with heaven’s hope. Hope is your INHERITANCE in Christ! It is not held in a trust for some future time, it is fully available and accessible to you right now!

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Day 28

Awaken Dreams

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 28 -
Inheritance - Awakening Dreams

Acts 2:17-18
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams."

Part of our inheritance in the Holy Spirit is new dreams! Today, on our 40 day journey, Kate and I are praying with and for you for fresh dreams, as well as the stirring up of old dreams. God has new dreams for you, and He is bringing “dead” and buried dreams to life. Don’t be shocked when long forgotten ideas and hopes start to fire to life suddenly. That’s Holy Spirit responding to our prayer!

In Christ, our inheritance isn’t just receiving, but stepping out to do the things He is placing on our hearts to do. You were created on purpose, for a purpose - and you are filled with God to fulfill all that God has created you to do. We believe that every one of us are called to the Father, through Christ, and equipped in the Spirit for specific works. You can go places no one else can go, and you can access people’s lives no one else can access. There are networks, contacts and ideas that you have that no one else has. Don’t downplay your role in expanding the Kingdom!! You matter. Your ideas matter. Your voice matters. You “fully alive” in Christ won’t look like anybody else, and THAT’S A GOOD THING! You are a KINGDOM KEY that unlocks and opens very specific locks. Dream big. Dream again! Dream, then step by faith into the fulfillment! All that God has asked you to do, He has equipped you to do!

Prayer: God, you have designed my life and filled my life for a purpose. You are up to far more than I comprehend, and you have placed dreams in me from before I was formed in the womb, and you are now calling them to life! I say “yes” to you and your plans, desires, and dreams! It may scare me to death, but I give you my yes fully and without reservation. Kill fear and excuses, comparison and inadequacy right now! I have something unique to carry and release through you Holy Spirit as you fill me and lead me!

Eph 2:10 “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.”

Awaken Kingdom ideas

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 29 -
Inheritance - Awakening Kingdom ideas!

Kate and I believe that you were created uniquely, crafted for His purposes. He has taken the misdirections, mistakes and even the massive blows you have endured, and CRAFTED them into an incredible creation, useful and specifically designed for opportunities that are right now unfolding before you!

You carry ideas that have been born from the unique journey you’ve taken. Ideas implanted through your experiences, failures, setbacks, and victories. Ideas born from learning to hear His voice, and ideas born from learning to see His Kingdom superimposed over this present reality.

You have been given heaven’s blueprints - for schools, businesses, marriages, families, neighborhoods, companies, organizations, cities and we believe with these blueprints - by following His plans - no matter how small the idea or vision is, massive shifts will begin to take place. DON’T DISMISS WHAT HE IS SHOWING YOU!!

Pray this with us: “Father, let me see as you see! Awaken Kingdom ideas in me, new and old. Things I’ve thought, heard and seen, that I have dismissed or disqualified myself from too quickly. Share with me new secrets and ways You want me to join in pursuing and building heaven’s best in the world around me. I am not inconsequential. My ideas are not feeble and unlikely. I have the mind of Christ, I am filled with the Spirit of the Living God, and I am available to You! You qualify, equip and commission me. No one can disqualify whom You have chosen and approved! Show me heaven’s blueprints and I will follow them!! I love searching Your heart for ideas You have hidden just for us!”

Proverbs 25:2 “It is God's privilege to conceal things and the king's privilege to discover them.”

1 Cor. 2:9 “That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him."

Day 29

Calling out resources

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 30 -
Inheritance - Calling out spiritual and tangible resources

Heaven’s resources are different than our resources, however, many of the ideas and dreams that we are stepping into as part of our inheritance need tangible, physical resources in order to come about. Today, we are praying for resources and opportunities to open up to you. We are praying for miraculous and unlikely connections to be made, and for relational networking to grow in order to position you before the people who can fund, champion, encourage or expand your ideas. We see people being placed into unexpected conversations with the exact person they need to connect with in order for their ideas and dreams to move forward. This is a season of acceleration. Things will begin to happen quickly as you step out in faith and let His presence and voice lead you, instead of fear, insecurity, or doubt. Make your ideas and dreams known to those around you and watch as momentum begins to form! All of heaven is behind you! It is impossible to overstate the willingness of God to empower you to demonstrate His love, share His Gospel of reconciliation, and to walk a supernatural “spirit-filled” life

We believe there is an entrepreneurial anointing and grace on people's lives right now as they expand the Kingdom and make Jesus famous. This entrepreneurial anointing we’re sensing in the Spirit isn’t limited to starting businesses - it represents people who are called to pioneer their ideas and Kingdom vision, and watch them grow into a foothold for God’s glory and goodness. It might be anything - a career, a creative expression, ministry, outreach, invention, and of course a business. But we are seeing God calling the “entrepreneur”, the pioneer, to the forefront of His ambassadors - people who will change and revitalize culture by what they start and sustain, and how they expand heaven’s ecosystem around their lives.

Heaven’s resources are real, and they are around us as we need them to accomplish His work. Like the fish and loaves that the boy brought to Jesus, he watched as all that he had was taken by Jesus, blessed, multiplied, and dispersed miraculously. Jesus wants to take what is small to us, and with our permission, increase it until it is reaching and impacting people’s lives for the Gospel of Jesus far beyond our wildest imaginings.

[Bold] prayer - “Jesus, You are our inheritance. And the nations are your inheritance! We are alive to take the nations for your Kingdom, and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ around this globe - and in our homes, neighborhoods, schools and workplaces. You are equipping us with resources to accomplish the things you have set out for us to do. We are not beggars, hoping for a spare coin, or forgotten servants fighting over scraps. You are a God of more than enough - so we ask for the “more” to run with the dreams, visions and ideas You are supernaturally birthing in us! Our inheritance is not failure or misfortune. We are called, commissioned, and equipped with all we need to walk in the fullness of the things you’ve called us to!”

Eph. 3:20-21 “Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.”

Day 30

EXPANSION

Day 31

You are God of this city/region

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 31 - You are God of our city/region!

As we step into the last 10 days of our prayer journey - we want to begin with worship and a declaration, that our cities and this region belong to Him!! This morning as you pray and worship, let this song lead your heart deeper into the excitement and anticipation of what God is doing right here in the Rogue Valley!

(Please write down the prophetic words and pictures Holy Spirit shows you as you pray over the valley - and share them with us!)

(Here’s the powerful story behind how the song was written) - https://youtu.be/kXh_tgjnYJw

Day 32

You have positioned us for your purposes

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 32 - Positioned for His purposes!

We believe that God has moved us miraculously to the heart of Medford, in the center of our region, for His purposes. Of this there is no doubt! The miracles of timing, provision, dodged pitfalls, favor, and increase that went into changing locations are undeniable confirmations of God’s leading. It is staggering! Who else but God can move us the way He has? And the miracle goes so far beyond resources and finances. This location will be central to all revitalization that happens! The city will grow up around what God is doing in, around and through our building. Truly God has positioned us for a purpose.

What is true corporately is true individually - just as God has positioned our building to be a “hub” that we grow from throughout our region, He has placed your life strategically here in the valley! You are POSITIONED for His PURPOSES!!

Prayer - “Thank you for the miracle of how you have positioned our Medford church building* right in the middle of our valley! We ask for all things that You have planned to come about, and that no weapon or scheme of the enemy would be effective against Your people and purposes for the Rogue Valley. Here we are, fully yours, and available to you! Fill us! Use us!!!

*Now, pray this prayer again over our Ashland building. Then!! Pray it again and instead of the building, pray it over your life!!!

Day 33

On earth as it is in heaven

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 33 - On earth as it is in heaven!

When we pray from a place where we expect defeat, our prayers lack tenacity and faith, anticipation and expectation. Whether we are praying for a family member coming to Christ, the restoration of a marriage, or something to shift in our city - we must believe that God is a miracle working God who delights in making old things new, revitalizing what is broken down, resurrecting what is dead, transforming what is useless, and answering every prayer of faith. The enemy works diligently to make us believe that the world is falling apart, everything is hopeless, and that it is inevitable that things will get worse and worse around us. However, when the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He taught them to pray this bold and wild prayer: “Our Father, in heaven, we worship Your name. YOUR KINGDOM COME. Your will be done, on EARTH as it is in HEAVEN....” (Matt. 6:9-13).

When Jesus comes, things don’t get worse, they get better! Radically better!! (Simple, but such necessary truth for us to grasp!!) We are praying and agreeing with the full prayer that Jesus taught. His Kingdom come. His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven! That’s the magnitude of how He wants to partner with us right now! We can’t go on believing it is inevitable that things are going to get worse while praying for Jesus to come and make things better. That makes no sense!! Let’s kill and bury any doubt around God’s desire - He wants to come and set things right, establish His Kingdom, and make heaven’s reality our reality.

Bold prayer: “Father forgive me for believing the worst about you, and for buying the lie that you are incapable of stopping the brokenness around us from increasing. You are the King of Kings. Come and bring heaven to earth in the Rogue Valley. I replace any and all doubt with a prayer of faith - and I say make this place a target for your goodness and your power, and start with me. Let heaven come!! In our building, our city, and this whole region!”

Day 34

Region awaken to Jesus // Gospel would spread like wildfire

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 34 - Awaken our region to Jesus

Isaiah 58:12 “Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.”

One more week of prayer together as we finish these 40 days strong! Let’s contend for great things, for risky things, with boldness! This region belongs to Christ, and we know that the nations are His inheritance. So, our prayer is simply that this ENTIRE REGION would come awake to Jesus! From the center of our valley to the tops of the mountains around us, we want to declare this is a place where God in His fullness is welcome!

Prayer: “I speak over my home, come awake to the fullness of Jesus. I call out over my neighborhood, specifically the neighbors on the right and left of my home, come awake to Jesus! I call out over my co-workers, specifically those I am closest with, come awake to Jesus! I call out over this city: come awake to Jesus!! I give you all of my influence, and with it You have permission to use me, joining with Your Spirit in awakening this entire region! I know that You will partner with me and empower me to be an ambassador of reconciliation, carrying the Gospel of Peace!”

Day 35

Lost and lonely to be placed into a family

40 Day Prayer Journey - Day 35 - Bring the lost and lonely of this region into Your family!

Ps. 68:6 “God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.”
Rom. 8:15 “...the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
Gal. 4:7 “And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, you are also an heir through God.”

Prayer: “Father, our cities and region are filled with people who are estranged from You. Who are living as slaves to lies, hopelessness, family cycles, generational cycles, and under an orphan spirit. We prophesy Your truth over our region, that You have broken these lies once and for all, and You have made a place in Your family for every one of us. Thank You for placing the lonely in families, and filling us with Your Spirit so we know we have a Good Father!

With our lives, our homes, and our church, we declare we are an extension of Your welcome and Your invitation. We open our hearts and our doors to whomever You bring. Put a fire in us to live this out practically and daily! Cause us to see by Your Spirit and be aware of those around us who You want to place in our family. Let our hearts be open to Your leading and to the needs of those around us who need a place of honor at our tables! Your family has room for everyone!!!”

Kingdom wisdom to be released - blueprints to influence this region

Day 36

Day 37

Kingdom resources to be released - more than money

Day 38

Kingdom generosity to be released - from all places

Wouldn’t grow big buildings, we would raise up and equip amazing lovers and followers of Jesus

Day 39

House of worship - We declare who You are, and celebrate what You have done, and demonstrate what You are doing.

Day 40
